Week 3

Thursday included another day of school with teachers Romeo and Rosa. Following class was a trip back to UNIFE, an all girls university in Lima. There we conversed with the students studying translation for an hour or so, in both English and Spanish. Following was another history lesson in the independence of Peru. Much of Peru's history reminds me of America, and their reasons for independence were very similar. How they gained the independence was much different though. A rebellion amongst the indigenous people led by Tupac Amaru, followed by two different countries, Argentina and Venezuela stepping in to liberate Peru finally created the independence. Peru was the last country to gain independence in South America, due to Lima being the center of Spanish power in the continent. After the class was a Salsa dancing lesson by some very talented professional dancers. We learned the simplest version, but watching their routine was amazing. At night a group of us headed to an indoor/outdoor colonial house that served as both a replica historic house and bar.
