To start Saturday off, I forgot my key in the room and then locked myself out. So, aware that I was keyless, I headed off to catch the bus that brought us to the "palacio de gobierno". Located in the Plaza Major" it is essentially the Peruvian version of the White House. It houses the president as well as has many decorated rooms. The most impressive was a recreation of the Hall of Mirrors, which is located in the Palace of Versailles in France. Despite shunning their mother country of Spain, there was still quite the European influence in the Palace. It also has a large courtyard which hosts a changing of the guards ceremony every Saturday that we got to see. Complete with a full marching band and a seemingly endless supply of guards, it was quite the extravagance that anyone can watch from the square. There was also a tour of the cathedral located adjacent to the palace. After the tours we grabbed lunch at La Lucha, an amazing sandwich place before dispersing into groups to relax or work on our presentations. While in one of the parks we saw quite the slackline show from a bunch of locals. Finally, after reading in the lobby for quite some time, my host family showed up and saved the day by letting me back into the apartment.
